Amateur is filling up

After been racing in Neatherlands and Germany, the group of Swedish flat trackers involved with Svemo making a good and fair rulebook, took the initiative to introduce the class Amateurs. Basicallly its something in between Rookie and Pro, but the most interesting thing with the class is that any rider with a bike within the requirements and classes can sign up.

Last years Amateur Champion of Viking Cup or on for new challenges this year in both Hooligan and Thunderbike.

Amateurs as a class was already introduced last year, 2024, and it rapidly became a popular alternative for the experienced but not the mega super fast riders. The meaning of having classes at all is to get good and fair racing. In many classes there for the bike specifications are the main focus but that doesn´t automatically make it good racing only fair. Classes like Rookie, Amateur and Pro450 ( which some organizers nowdays runs as an open ) on the other hand only reflects on the riders skills and speed. Differences in bikes, weight, engines and even set ups is of course one part, but in the end equally good riders can still battle and the bike is rarely the problem or the advantage. The differences in bikes and set up only matters on the absolute highest level where tens of second is the difference between the winner and the last rider over the finish line. In Europe very few riders are on the level instead we need to offer the riders classes suited for both common bikes used and the level the riders are at. Everyone likes to race side by side, battle for the positions and be part of the thrill. No one likes to loose half a lap to the rest and ride the rest of the heat alone. It’s boring for the rider and its boring for the spectators. and its exactly why a class like Amateur as well as Rookie and a Pro Open are popular and offers exactly that thrill we all know about. When you feel that you have a go, can overatake and get overtaken to ride side by side elbow to elbow and just fight til the end. Its just good racing and as long as you ride with some equally fast riders it doesn’t have to be the fastest.

This year we noticed a larger interest of entering the class and we noticed it over all, both in the cup and other races as well. Amateur is definatly a class that will grow even more since it offers really good riders good racing and the possibility to ride any bike of your choice within the requirements.
