***Updated*** A weekend of rain, losses and a sweet win

Last weekend did not become as planned for many of the Nordic riders. As we all know autumn is knocking hard on the doors and the weather can certainly stirr things up. The planned finales of the Swedish flat track cup including the nationals in Pro 450 got postponed until September 20 due to heavy rain days before. The weather forecast for upcoming weekend doesn’t look to good either, but as we know it can change quickly so lets cross our fingers that it will be possible to realize.

In Vasad Hungary the waether was good and the race had the opposite issues. The brand new track in Vasad seemed to be bumpy and dry and according to some riders that might have been the reason for many crashes including one for Finnish rider Saku Purtilo who ended practise as second fastest rider after Sammy Halbert, but also with a crash.

Saku Purtilo is fine again after crashing during practise in Vasad Hungary. He will be at the starting line of the last round of FIM Flat Track WC in Hungary this weekend. Picture by JP Purtilo.

Purtilo went on into the qualification but for anyone watching the race it was obvious something was wrong for the young Finn. Purtilo who made his first race after recovery of two broken wrists and a tough start with damage lung and broken ribs already in the first round has certainly had a rough season so far. Lots of will and speed but with the margins apparantly on the wrong side. According to Saku Purtilo’s social medias he gave it ago, but only felt worse and worse during the day. We have tried to get in touch with Saku to get a comment about his well being and plans for the last round in Pardubice next weekend. ***Updates*** Late last night we got hold of Saku and happily he is feeling fine again. Staying on the continent he will hopefully get some practice with a couple of WC-riders to be ready for the upcoming weekend and the last round in Pardubice Czech.

For Swedish rider Conny Ivarsson this weekend ended in success. Attending the last round of the German Flat Track Cup he finally had a chance to battle Dutch rider Maikel Dijkstra again. Last time they battled in Brokstedt, Ivarsson got a huge leek in his gas tank and had to borrow his wifes bike which was set up for a light and modest rider. The bike limited Ivarssons chances at that time and he had no chance battling about the top spot and had to settle for a second place. With a certain amount of hunger for revensch from Ivarsson, two heat wins took him to the final and pole position. Dijkstra was not to give away the win to Ivarsson and grabbed the holeshot, but Ivarsson never let of the throttle and in the first corner of the second lap he overtook Dijkstra and just kept going with a small advancement during the rest of the race. It was a tired but happy 60 year old Swede who entered the podium after one presious win in flat track. A huge congrats to a fine achivement.

Even his team mate and partner in crime Mia Kristoffersson had a positive weekend and manage to do some overtakes in the final, ending on 6th place in female class of this round.
