Malene Solvang from Vinsvoll, Norway is both the youngest and the fastest woman in our region, doing her first season in the PRO class.

In our region we are still few, but increasing and thats part of a community not only inviting female riders, but also which accept them as equals, no matter of age, skills or backgrounds. Same as for the guys.

Is flat track more equal than other motorsports, one might ask?

The answer is most likely within the social part of the sport which offers a space for everyone, no matter where you from, if you are woman or a man. The differences kind of never came up in this environment. Instead everyone focuses on their riding, to become better and to race the ones on the same level as themselves. Flat track has grown into not only an established sport, but also into a bright shining example of equality not forced on to someone or made up to be political correct, it just came from good people, with enlightend minds, big hearts and a burning fire for the sport. There is lessons to be learned from this., but what are the difference from other motorsports or for that matter many other sports overall.

Camilla Eriksson #68 started late just a a year or two before turning fifty and are racing the guys in both Vintage and Amateurs.

One explenation might be the starting age of riders. Since flat track in Europe is young, many of the riders started when grown up. No parents forced them, no social environment like school besties or anything like it made the choice for them. It was as simple as that it was actually something they choosed for themselves. A place to like, a bubble in reality, where everyone just enjoy themselves without any other references of each other. Conclusive one can say that non equal sports and mindsets as well as societys belongs in the past and flat track shows us that if you somehow can attract people who doesn’t judge, have an open mind and like gravel and speed :), you can make a political statement, even without having a clue doing it.

Vetlanda MS has not only one active lady, but two. Except from Camilla the even older Mia Kristoffersson soon to be 59 years old started some five years ago and enjoying the sport, the community and the small steps of increasing speed mostly riding in Thunderbike.

To celebrate this equality UK are the first ones on track. Last year visited by film maker Wendy Schneider – Angels of Dirt, DTRA UK and Greenfield this year invited all racing ladies to come and race the celebration of Women in Motorsport at the season ending on September 20-21.

Few people from our part is prepared to make the trip to Greenfield to participate, but we can still get inspired by the fact that theres a lot of fast ladies in this sport and even in our own region we are happy to state that we have a bunch ourselves, not only fast and young ones but slow and old ones as well. Which is exactly what this is all about. Flat track includes everyone even if there is battles at the tracks, the environment offers love, patience and friendship to anyone joining.

Started this year Maja Ekvall from Nässjö Sweden turned out to be an extreme talent and a fighter de Luxe, already climbing on top of the podiums. Amateurs next we believe.

So what do you say; Shall we celebrate not only the women in our motorsport but also probably the most equal men on earth – The Flat Trackers?
