Saku Purtilo is back on track

After a pile of setbacks and injurys in the early part of his first season as a FIM WC-rider, Saku Purtilo is now ready to go racing again. Since a week or so it’s official that the Finnish talent will be back on track for the last two rounds of FIM Flat Track World Championship.

There has been some heart breaking moments this season and maybe most of all when at first Menno Van Meer (which is an extremly nice guy) by accident landed on top of Saku Purtilo in the first round of this years FIM Flat Track WC. Broken ribs, damage lung and of course lots of bruzing.

– I feel so bad about it, he is like the last person I would like to crash with, Menno Van Meer stated when SFT talked to him.

Never the less Purtilo was back already for the second round which went well and straight after off to Poland showing he was back in shape at the Gorzow invitational race.

But bad luck is sometimes hard to shake off and in the third round in Donji Kraljevec – Croatia, it striked again. Purtilo crashed in his third heat. But we all know, he is a Finn and he ain’t into Soccer, so he did finished the race, but still ended up at hospital afterwards with an x-ray confirming two broken wrists.

Four weeks of rest and rehab and no round 4 in Scheessel, he still fights back and are now ready for the last two rounds of the championship.

– I’m feeling very well. The start of the season was very challenging, but my goal is to reach the final in at least one of the two races left and to return home safe, Saku Purtilo says.

Next round of FIM WC is held in Vasad Hungary on September 13 and the last one at Pardubice – Czech Republic on September 20.

It’s a tough to have a break during the season and even if there has been time for both healing and practise, Purtilo has missed out on some vital race experience during his time off. Most of the WC-riders race a lot during the season and attend as many other races as possible to refine the skills and the speed which is hard too gain practising alone on a track. Purtilo as far as we know have been riding a bit with some really good finish riders and that might have helped him getting back in both shape and race mood.

– I had a four-week break from riding, but now we’ve been practicing several times a week and testing different bike setups, Saku continues.

Since the last two rounds are close to each other, we suspect Purtilo will use the time in between staying in the area to get som more quality time on track.

– The plan is to stay in the Czech Republic for a week and try to get one or two training sessions during that time, he concludes.

We are all looking forward to watch him race again and all races are sent live on https://fim-moto.tv/flat_track and its free but you need to register an account.
