Round up

Pictures by JP Purtilo and Nikita Solenov

No Halbert didn’t make it a second time. Instead Czech rider Ervin Krajcovic made it all the way and Halbert had to settle for a second place followed by Ervins country man Ondrej Svedic. There are always circcumstances and Halbert forced it a little bit too far in the first corner in the finale. It was lots of riders trying to make the race of their life and the top riders faught hard. But the space wasn’t enough and Halbert hit Ondrej Svedic making him crash and Halbert had to start from penalty line in the restart which most likely costed him the chance of the top spot.

Saku Purtilo managed to ride the whole round and he did good finishing the season that way. We did noticed that he kind of hesitated when it got to crowded most likely due to staying on the safe side, not getting injured again. This season has been rough on this young rider, but we do hope its just a tough start and that he will be in perfect shape more experienced until next year and maybe joined by his fellow countrymen Ossi Rantala and Olli Mäkele in the FIM Championship. We do hope for some more riders from our region and both young Malene Solvang and Øyvind Dahl might be names to keep an eye on for the future. In Sweden its still the old boys ruling, but we know for a fact that there are young riders who is on their way and we will follow their steps closly.

DTRA UK’s finales went off as plannedand except from plenty of UK Riders as well as Dutch and Germans they managed to gather seven nations in the womens class. Winner in the A-final was Skye Adams UK (last years winner of Hooligan) followed by Jamie Kimber UK and Taia Little Canada who came over just to race this one. Congrats to all riders and to DTRA UK for another great season finale.

For us in the Nordic region all theres left to race is the finales of the Swedish flat track cup. It was postponed due to rain, twice, and will now have another go at October 11.

Thank you and great to hear Poland is on the run too. About track prep its kind of a tricky question since material is so different on different tracks. But basically there are two kinds, clay tracks and cushion tracks. On a clay track you try to get all material stick togheter making it hard and smooth, slippery when to dry and also when its to wet.
Cushion tracks has lots of sandy material on top and usually needs much more water. Gives a very grippy surface anyway and are usually hard to pack. I guess tracks in Poland are about the same as in Sweden, speedway tracks with both clay and sand. Best advice I can give without any knowledge of your particular track is to make it as smooth as possible by grading it and then water and pack it as much as possible. A hard surface is much easier for most of us. Water in the correct amount is higly depending of the consistency of material, outdoor temperature and drainage, so one need to get to know the particular track, how its behaving in different conditions. Thats only done by riding on it a lot and prep it until it feels good. Water is important to get it good. Too much with clay is a disaster, as well as too little. Good track prep starts days before. Our home track needs to be sooked a day before and than packed. On practise or race day we need a light grading, packing and watering every 4-6 heat to keep it good. Some tracks needs more and some less. Not so specific advices but hopefully it can give you an idea of what to expect. Let us know about whats happening in Poland and we can keep our readers updated. Its only a ferry away 🙂
